1967, Philco. Introduces Hip Pocket Records, 4-inch vinyl

1967, Philco. Hip Pocket Records, 4-inch vinyl phonograph record discs manufactured in the late 1960’s, which could be played on regular record players. It was not a commercial success. Philco (as well as the Sylvania brand name) was acquired by PHILIPS ELECTRONICS (The Netherlands) in 1981 so that Philips could gain the rights to use its trademark in the United States. Philco had been able to keep Philips from using its trademark because of the similar-sounding names, so Philips had sold its products in the United States under the name “Norelco”.  To build on portable audio movement PHILIPS ELECTRONICS developed an automobile record player.
Later PHILIPS ELECTRONICS invented both Compact Disc CD/DVD, audio cassette and 60,000 patents, 29,000 trademarks, 43,000 design Patents, and 2,000 domain names.

When I was with PHILIPS ELECTRONICS, of the Netherlands, we were the world’s largest electronics companies, with sales of U.S. $41 billion. With 262,500 employees in more than 60 countries, world leader in lighting, color TV equipment, electronic shavers and recorded music (PolyGram) I am honored to have worked for PHILIPS ELECTRONICS for many years. PHILIPS even paid for us to live in The Netherlands. OPM: Other People’s Money, the best kind. The Dutch are great people, highly educated and everyone can speak at least five languages
