The single “California Girls” was released on this day (July 12th, 1965. The song was written by Brian Wilson and Mike Love. Wilson conceived the song during his first acid trip. Except for 12 string guitar by Carl Wilson, the other music was performed not by members of the band; mostly by the Wrecking Crew, (Hal Blaine, Leon Russell & Carole King).
 
“Upon its release as a single, “California Girls” reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
