SpaceX Launches 1st Test Satellites for Starlink Internet Constellation Along with Spain's Paz

Download mission Press Kit:

03:39A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket with a pre-flown first stage successfully delivered to orbit today (Feb. 22) the first two prototypes for the company's huge Starlink satellite-internet constellation, along with a Spanish Earth-observing spacecraft.

The two-stage Falcon 9 lifted off from California's Vandenberg Air Force Base today at 9:17 a.m. EST (1417 GMT; 6:17 a.m. local California time) and successfully delivered its main payload, the Paz radar-imaging satellite, into its intended orbit. In a first, SpaceX also attempted to recover the protective nose-cone-like payload fairing in the Pacific Ocean with a net-carrying boat called Mr. Steven.

The test satellites are another step forward for chief executive Elon Musk, who dreams of building a worldwide network of thousands of orbiting devices that can beam Internet signals down to Earth from low orbit.

SpaceX isn't the only company with satellite-internet dreams. The FCC has already approved such projects being developed by OneWeb, Space Norway and Telesat.

Miami-Dade County gets its first new Metrorail train in over 30 years for it’s 25-mile Metrorail system.

Miami-Dade County gets its first new Metrorail train in over 30 years for it’s 25-mile Metrorail system.

For the first time since the Metrorail system opened its doors to passengers in 1984, the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) has placed its first new train into service.

New Metrorail train placed in Miami-Dade County expected to bring great modernization.

Ushering in a new era of modern, high-tech trains, manufactured by Hitachi Rail Italy, improvements in both service reliability and overall passenger experience are expected.

Funded by approximately $313.8 million in surtax funds from the People’s Transportation Plan, this is the first four-car train of 136 cars that will make up a new Metrorail fleet, expected to improve the system’s quality of service. Each new rail car will feature automated announcements with upgraded sound, digital signs displaying the name of the next station, four digital monitors for extensive media content, high-speed Wi-Fi for passengers, interior bicycle racks, security cameras and energy efficient LED lighting.

Hitachi Rail designed the new Metrorail trains exclusively for Miami-Dade County.

Also available is the EASY Pay app which turns a smartphone into a mobile ticket.

By July 2018, DTPW anticipates to have replaced half of the cars needed for operation at peak levels. The end of 2019 will show DTPW with all new rail cars required for peak-revenue service.

What’s In Your Organic Makeup?

What's In Your Organic Makeup?

What ingredients are you putting on your skin?

We all have a few products that are labeled "natural" or "organic" but have we checked those ingredients lately?

Most "natural" and "organic" products only contain 50-60% of the organic ingredients advertised and the remaining 40-50% are made of man made chemical compounds.

A lot of products are labeled as "all natural" but still contain damaging, synthetic ingredients such as parabens, preservatives, talc and bismuth oxychloride.

A lot of women experience severe facial itching and irritation from popular mineral makeup companies —which is caused by the addition bismuth oxychloride in the formula—a chemical compound that these companies add to improve the "slip" and texture of powder and liquid makeup.

What's even more alarming is that the FDA doesn't require makeup companies to disclose "all" of the ingredients in their products —so sometimes you never know exactly what you're putting on your face and skin.

The best rule of thumb is to check your makeup and skincare ingredients label and understand that the "fewer" ingredients and those you can actually pronounce, will be the better choice for skin and your overall health.

The PetLight Story

The PetLight Story

Our little Fluffy (Maltese dog) is 10 years old, 10-lbs.  We were staying at a good friend of JerriAnne (wife) who has Pergo laminate flooring. Fluffy jumped off her very tall bed – expecting carpet/pillow – but instead, landed on the slippery floor… so her legs splayed out and she, basically, did a swan dive – crashing on to the floor and falling hard onto her chest. Fluffy just laid there… kinda stunned, for a bit and then slowly got up and walked around looking like she'd been knocked silly. When we got home the next day to pick her up, she could hardly walk and was wobbly… like she was drunk. From there, it just got worse. Much worse! After a week, we'd had two very involved Vet appointments and went thru different pain meds and muscle relaxers, since they diagnosed: sprained neck & shoulder, torn ligament in upper leg, and possible concussion! Fluffy couldn't walk more than a couple of steps without falling over. Couldn't stand to pee, without us holding him up in a harness. The Vet meds constipated her.

After two weeks of carefully tending to our beloved Fluffy dog… who screamed in pain every time you even came near her!! There was even talk of putting her to sleep. I mean… WHAT kind of a "life" was this???  BUT THEN… I stumbled across a website for a Pet Chiropractor (Kelly Thompson) who operates out of a clinic in Cupertino called: PetLight Vet.  The reviews on Yelp were out-of-this-world amazing… so I decided, why not try it? This would be our last-ditch effort, before sending Fluffy to pet heaven. I called (650-218-5512) and left a detailed message, as requested. Within an hour, he called me back – we discussed – and he fit Fluffy into his schedule THAT DAY.

Outcome:

Fluffy has four herniated discs. A herniated discs can pinch the spinal cord or a nerve root. In a perfect world where "Money is no object" we would pay the $5k to fix a single herniated disc, the Neuro Surgeon said he would try to address the worst disc and see if it fixes the problem. It might not, then more surgeries would be needed.

Recently Fluffy was having neck strain spasms. We used Dr. Kelly Thompson (doggie Chiropractor) to decompress her discs in her neck combined with PetLight therapy. At the same time I gave Fluffy an eighth of a baby aspirin, light neck messages and it really, really helped. Big surprise. Doggie Chiropractor plus PetLight therapy is actually inexpensive compared to spine surgery and less invasive.

Fortunately Fluffy is up and running about.

World Prematurity Day on 17 November

World Prematurity Day on 17 November is one of the most important days in the year to raise awareness of the challenges and burden of preterm birth globally. The day was initiated by EFCNI and partnering European parent organisations in 2008. Meanwhile, countless individuals and organisations from more than 100 countries join forces with activities, special events and commit to action to help address preterm birth and improve the situation of preterm babies and their families.

Everyone is warmly invited to join this day with activities or events: parent organisations, hospitals, non-profit organisations, healthcare professionals, societies, companies, politicians, media, and individuals. No matter how much time, money or manpower you are able to spare – even with simple things you can make a difference!

The typical socksline and purple lightings have become symbols of World Prematurity Day. The purple colour in the visual identity stands for sensitivity and exceptionality.

It is important to show the world the united voice of all those committed to preterm babies and their families: Please help us in putting together a complete review of the worldwide activities, by taking part in our survey. This way, we can feature your activity on our website.

In addition, you can enter your activity and the difference you make on the EFCNI Changemaker Map in your native language. Once added, your input will stay on the homepage and can be read by many people around the world.

Known as the ‘World’s Grumpiest Boss,’ Mike Davis dies at 85

David died at 85 on Sept. 18 at his home in Las Vegas.

Mike Davis gained notoriety as the author of blunt interoffice correspondences.

Here are a few excerpts from of what the employees of Tiger Oil Company regularly received from Mike Davis (otherwise known as, Tiger Mike);

“There will be no more birthday celebrations, birthday cakes, levity or celebrations of any kind within the office,” the boss wrote on Feb. 8, 1978.

“This is a business office. If you have to celebrate, do it after office hours on your own time.”

Do not speak to me when you see me,” the man had ordered in a memo the month before. “If I want to speak to you, I will do so. I want to save my throat. I don’t want to ruin it by saying hello to all of you.”

“Anyone who lets their hair grow below their ears to where I can’t see their ears means they don’t wash. If they don’t wash, they stink. And if they stink, I don’t want the son-of-a-bitch around me.”

Another memo from Davis reads, "Idle conversation and gossip in this office among employees will result in immediate termination … Do your job and keep your mouth shut!"

Yet another reads: "I swear, but since I am the owner of this company, that is my privilege, and this privilege is not to be interpreted as the same for any employee."

“Handwriting takes much longer than a typewriter. You’re wasting your time, but more importantly, you’re wasting my time. If you don’t know how to type, you’d better learn.”

“I suggest that you people buy enough cigarettes to keep here for yourselves to smoke because, by God, you will not go and buy them on my time.”

“I do not appreciate people coming into my office and helping themselves to my candy, cigars, medicine and other personal items … I don’t mind giving, but I would like the privilege of knowing and giving it myself.”

Mike Davis wasn’t embarrassed by the contents of the memos.

In Donald Trump business fashion Tiger Oil Company went under thus filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy and emerging from bankruptcy a few years later under the new name of Par Petroleum Corp. and relocated to Houston.

Many of his former employees attended the funeral just to make sure he was actually dead.

Cosmopolitan and SEAT Unveil a Car for Women

A car for women? Cosmopolitan and SEAT under fire for new vehicle.

Cosmopolitan and car manufacturer SEAT (Headquartered in Martorell, Spain for 60 years and their parent company is the Volkswagen Group) have unveiled a car for women.

The car's gender stereotyped design features have ignited rage on Social Media.

Car manufacturer SEAT and Cosmopolitan (Women’s lifestyle publication) are feeling a negative reaction over a brand’s new car for "the ladies" that was jointly unveiled in London at Cosmopolitan's FashFest event.

SEAT’s Cosmopolitan Mii comes complete with a handbag hook, jewel-effect rims and "eyeliner headlights."

According to the two companies, “This makes it perfect for "impromptu karaoke performances, last-minute wardrobe changes, dramatic gossip sessions and emergency lunch-hour kips,"

The SEAT Cosmopolitan Mii is a solid flashback to when Bic pens launched "Bic for Her" ballpoint pens that were intentionally designed with a thinner barrel . . . . to fit a woman's hand and to compound matters were made available in pink and purple. Ellen Degeneres’ had a great time making fun of the “Bic for Her” product.

The Social Media reaction to “Bic for Her” was fast, ferocious and laughable. Cosmopolitan and Seat are feeling the heat as well.
